New Year is all about self-improvement by adopting better habits from the get-go. To ensure 2018 is a success for your charity, here are some simple tips to start the year right.
Embrace technology and start learning
Many of us have gotten away with burying our head in the sand and shying away from technology before now, but this isn’t possible anymore. 2017, like many of the years before it, saw a rise in the use of digital methods and technology is always developing at a rate that we are struggling to keep up with. Now is the time to get on board. Not everyone is going to be a whizz with technology, so either start learning by taking online courses, attending workshops or reading blogs, or employ someone who can help you. Your charity needs to be using methods that are easy and relevant to your audience, so keep up with the changing times and embrace it.
Start reflecting and making change
The only way we can improve on the year just gone is if we reflect on it and review it. What worked well for your charity this year? Did you reach your goals? What could you improve on moving forward? How are you going to do that? You need to be asking yourself these questions and also friends, family and your supporters so that you can effectively move your charity forward. It could be something as simple as reviewing your key messages, making sure your marketing is on brand or changing the way you communicate with your supporters, but unless you know what your weaknesses are in the first place, you can’t make the right change.
Moving forward in 2018, make a new plan. Define your goals and strategies for change and start to implement them immediately. Make sure that everyone involved is aware of the transformation so that you are all moving in the same direction and use monthly targets to track your progress. It is important that you are able to measure if these changes are successful along the way so when it comes to reviewing the year again, you can see how much of an impact they made.
Start networking and making use of your connections
Although it may not seem like an effective use of your time which is often limited anyway, networking is actually very beneficial for charities. In the new year, try to attend events or monthly networking meetings to meet new people. Only when you make new connections will new ideas and opportunities start to arise! Another benefit of networking and collecting contacts is that somewhere down the line, you may need their help or service in the future so you can get in touch and create an opportunity for yourself.
Adopt the mindset Time = Money
Many of us are guilty of wanting to do everything ourselves to save money, when in reality, this wastes a lot of our time doing insignificant things and the months fly by. This isn’t great for charities as time spent on this is time spent away from the cause. Moving forward, adopt the mindset that time equals money and start thinking about how you can give yourself more of it. Sometimes that can mean learning new skills such as using social media scheduling tools to automate your posts rather than doing it manually, or it can mean spending a little. When we need to spend money to make money, you need to think of this as an investment. Not only will this save you time so that you can raise more money for the cause, but it will also keep the charity moving forward.
So many charities are passionate about their cause but don’t have the time or resources to make the impact that they want. With these tips, you can get closer to doing just that.
Obviously, there is always more that you can improve on, but the key is not to change too much at once! By adopting these simple tips to your charity’s marketing strategy in 2018, you can start the year right and give yourself the best chance of success.
