Thinking about recruiting a graphic designer?

Read this first.

I’m Matt. I run Ginger and Tall, a small and friendly graphic design agency based in Swansea. We only work with charities.

In 2025, we worked with over 65 charities. A lot of them came to us at a point very similar to where you might be now. Design had grown in importance, the workload had increased, and everything was starting to feel a bit stretched.

Let’s sense-check it together

If you’re actively recruiting, or seriously thinking about it, a short conversation can help you sense-check the decision before you commit. There’s no hard sell and no pressure. And if we meet in person, I’ll happily buy the coffee.

Not a fan of meetings? That's fine!

Does this feel familiar?

Design is needed everywhere. Campaigns, fundraising, events, reports and day-to-day comms. The volume has grown, expectations are higher, and it’s getting harder to keep up alongside everything else. Recruiting a part-time or full-time designer feels like the sensible next step.

Sometimes it is. Quite often, it isn’t.

You’re not trying to fix a creativity problem.

At this stage, most charities aren’t lacking ideas or ambition. What they’re really trying to solve is the need for reliable design support. Continuity across projects. Consistency in how things look and feel. Confidence that work will get done properly, without everything landing on one role.

Why recruitment doesn’t always solve the problem

When charities recruit a designer, we often see the same pressures appear. One person has limited availability. Time is spent recruiting and onboarding. There’s ongoing line management to factor in. Work pauses when they’re busy, off sick or on leave, and consistency relies heavily on one individual. Scaling support up or down as workloads change can be difficult.

It’s not a bad decision. It’s just not always the right one.

What working with Ginger and Tall looks like

Ginger and Tall is a small, experienced design team providing ongoing support to charities. We work month to month, adjusting as your workload changes, and we already understand how charities operate. There’s no recruitment, no onboarding, and no line management added to your role.

The agency is led by me, with over 20 years’ experience of graphic design at a strategic level. We support charities of all sizes and act as an extension of your team, rather than another person to manage.

Why charities choose us instead

Most of our clients stay with us long-term. Not because they’re tied in, but because once we’re onboard, things genuinely get easier. There are fewer last-minute panics, more consistency across everything they produce, and far less time spent managing design.

A quick note on fees and fuss

We’re easy to work with and realistic about budgets. There are no big agency fees, no Soho overheads, and no ball pits. Just solid, thoughtful design support that helps charities get their work out into the world properly.
