Speaking the Right Language

Design is much more than making things look pretty. Off course, it is good to know that your online and offline marketing materials are pleasing to the eye. But great design is simply a means to an end.

It’s much more than a logo. Design includes the layout of your website and your printed materials. The right design, the right words and the right channels of communication all combine to convey ideas and information about you and your cause.

Are you speaking the same language?

What would it mean to your organisation if you were able to communicate with your audience in a language they better understood? 

A Welsh Language Use Survey (2013-14) reported that although English was the Primary language in Wales, 23% of residents could speak Welsh1.

What about other languages?

The census also reported that there were over 40,000 households in Wales with residents whose first language was not English or Welsh2. That’s more homes than there are on Anglesey!

The next top ‘other’ languages were Polish (17% of speakers) and Arabic (6.8%)3.

Cofnododd y cyfrifiad hefyd bod dros 40,000 o gartrefi yng Nghymru yn cynnwys preswylwyr nad oeddent yn cyfrif Saesneg neu Gymraeg fel eu hiaith gyntaf2. Mae hynny’n fwy o gartrefi nag sy’n Ynys Môn!

Pwylaidd (17% o siaradwyr) ac Arabeg (6.8%) oedd y prif ieithoedd “eraill”3.

Czy mówisz tym samym językiem?

Co z innymi językami?

Ze spisu ludności również wynikało, że było ponad 40.000 gospodarstw domowych w Walii, w których pierwszym językiem nie był ani angielski ani walijski2. To więcej domów niż znajduje się na Anglesey!

Kolejnymi najbadziej popularnymi “innymi”  językami były polski (17% posługujących się) oraz arabski (6.8%)3.

أما اللغات ”الأخرى“ الأكثر تداولاً فكانت البولندية (17% من المتحدثين) والعربية (6.8%)3
