A night of welcome, hope and celebration
This week we went to the Nation of Sanctuary Awards – an inspiring event run by the Welsh Refugee Council. Held at the Coal Exchange in Cardiff, it brought together people and organisations from across Wales who are working hard to make our country a true place of sanctuary.
It was a night that gave recognition to those who go the extra mile to support people seeking safety and a new start, alongside those who have come to Wales and are making impacts on the communities they live in.
Why we’re proud to be working with the Welsh Refugee Council
At Ginger and Tall, we work with charities because we believe graphic design should do more than look good – it should support people doing brilliant things. We’ve recently started working with the Welsh Refugee Council, and this event was a reminder of just how important and impactful their work is.
They support families fleeing conflict and help them rebuild their lives through housing, education and legal advice. It is doing life-changing work every day.
They help people not just survive, but feel safe, welcomed and valued in communities across Wales – including here in Swansea (which was Wales’ first City of Sanctuary).
The bigger picture for Wales
Wales has made a commitment to being a Nation of Sanctuary – a place that welcomes people with dignity, fairness and respect.
The Welsh Refugee Council plays a huge part in making that vision a reality. Their work helps people access their rights, feel safe and start again – and that benefits all of us. Stronger, more inclusive communities make Wales a better place to live, work and belong. It has a very positive (and tangible) effect on our economy and culture.
What the awards showed us
The Nation of Sanctuary Awards were about real people, often working quietly behind the scenes, making a huge impact. From volunteers to frontline workers to grassroots leaders, every person recognised on the night reminded us about the impact kindness and action can make.
We left the event inspired – and even more committed to supporting charities that are creating real change.
