Like most people, we spent the pandemic working from home. It worked for a while – Zoom calls, shared files – we got the work done.
But over time, we realised how much we missed being in the same space. Not just as a team, but as a business. We missed the energy, the quick chats, the ideas that come when you’re surrounded by other people trying to do good things too.
We only work with charities and socially positive businesses
Ginger and Tall is a graphic design agency based in Swansea. We only work with charities, social enterprises, and businesses doing good things in the world.
Purpose isn’t a trend for us – it’s the whole point.
So, when we started thinking about a proper base again, we knew it had to be somewhere that matched our values. Somewhere that felt like more than just a place to put a desk.
Finding our new home at Urban HQ
We already knew about Urban HQ in Swansea – mostly because of the brilliant café downstairs. But we didn’t realise that Urban Foundry, who run the building, had created office spaces upstairs. And they were open to organisations who liked the idea of building a value-driven community.
That sounded like a perfect fit.
We moved into one of the bigger offices upstairs – and were one of the first teams to settle in. There’s also a coworking space and a growing mix of organisations moving in – charities, social enterprises, creatives – all with a shared focus on impact.
Being in the same space matters
Already, we’ve found ourselves in chats in the kitchen, bumping into people in the corridor, and starting early-stage collaborations with others in the building. That sort of connection doesn’t happen on Zoom. It happens when you’re physically around people with shared values and mutual goals.
It’s reminded us why spaces like this matter – especially for the creative industries and people who just want to be better businesses.
Plus there are regular events here such as First Tuesday Club and Anti-Social After work Drinks.
Why it works for us
When you’re surrounded by others who care about making a difference – who get the challenges of charity work, tight deadlines and small budgets – it makes a big difference.
There’s no need to explain why you care. You just do. And that shared understanding leads to faster ideas, better conversations, and stronger work.
Working from home had its place. But we’re glad to be back – together, creative, and connected.
